VOLUNTEER
In light of the concerns surrounding COVID-19, for the safety of our volunteers and in our efforts to continue social distancing, we have temporarily suspended our packing days.
We will be filling our orders internally until further notice.
During this uncertain time, we at Liberation Library believe it is now even more important for incarcerated young people to have access to other worlds of their choosing. For this reason, we will even be sending each reader an additional book with their order.
While we previously offered an Amazon wishlist for our donors, we have now partnered with select Chicago bookstores to engage in mutual aid with these important community businesses, while standing in solidarity with Amazon workers who are currently carrying out safety strikes for safe and sanitized working conditions. (You can learn more about the workers’ demands here).
Thank you for supporting Liberation Library.

❗️We are currently not accepting any book donations.❗️
While we appreciate our supporter’s generosity, our inventory space is limited, and we need to prioritize the books that are frequently requested by our readers.
Liberation Library’s mission is to send incarcerated young people books of their choosing. It's important for us to honor their book requests, since they are trapped in a system that offers few opportunities for self-determination and choice. Our book catalogue is created with and for the young people we serve, and the books are theirs to take home with them after they are released.
We value our supporters’ enthusiasm to contribute to our mission, and we hope to offer new ways to get involved as we figure out what our operations will look like post-pandemic. While we develop new avenues of engagement, you can still help sustain our work and support incarcerated people
by signing up to be a pen pal or donate stamps for readers to send their own letters.
